The Tragedy of Rock Lee

Boruto is probably one of the best anime ever made… unless you like character development… or anime.

A lot of people are looking for any excuse to get mad and call boruto shit… and heres one more.

Welcome to Demo Entertainment, today we will be talking about the tragedy of rock lee. We’ll talk about his up-rise. Showing his past, what made him a great character, and his downfall by comparing him in Naruto, Naruto Shippuden and Boruto. Then last but not least we will provide a summary of everything.

Who is rock lee?

Rock Lee Is a shinobi of the hidden leaf village. He’s apart of the Lee clan and a member of Team Guy. Unlike most shinobi, he lacked the skills necessary to use Ninjutsu or Genjutsu and overcomes his weakness by using Taijutsu. Which is Body Techniques like martial arts or the optimization of natural human abilities.

His personality is energetic, optimistic, and hot-blooded. He also has the epitome of a “nice guy”. He emulate’s his idol might Guy, by rocking a bowl-cut hairstyle and wears a green jumpsuit. Masashi Kishimoto the writer of Naruto took inspiration from Bruce Lee and later used Jackie Chan’s drunken fist.

One of my favorite characters in Naruto is Rock Lee. Unfortunately, he was one of the characters that suffered the most when it came to Boruto’s horrible character development. We know Boruto wanted to show the new generation and their story. Which is understandable but why did they have to make every character we loved, act like a weak cunt.

It’s sad to see that they cucked him so hard in Boruto. I mean for fuck’s sake Sakura has better parts in Boruto than him. that’s just fucked up. Naruto Shippuden didn’t do a good job with rock lee, but at least he had a couple of good parts. Then he completely fell off as a character.

What made rock lee a great character

What makes rock lee so unique is that he redefines what we perceive as strong in Naruto. Up until now, strength has always been associated with ninjitsu. In fact, the only way to pass the final exam at the academy was to use a clone ninjitsu technique.

This makes him a fun character to watch. We get to see his enemies priceless expression when he surpasses their expectation with only Taijutsu.

Rock lee’s goal is to become a respectful ninja. By not using Genjutsu or Ninjutsu, just by using hard work and persistence. He also wants to show that it can beat natural genius.

Rock Lee in Naruto, Naruto Shippuden And Boruto

Rock lee had a great start, proving himself to be one of the strongest Genins at the Chūnin Exams. He showed his strength against Sasuke giving him the old ass beatin while still wearing his ankle weights. He was also able to go head to head with one of the Jinchuuriki, Gaara.

At 12 years old he was able to open 5 out of The Eight Inner Gates. This is a difficult feat even for the most talented ninja. Even Kakashi was surprised that he could that at such a young age. Most ninja can only open one inner gate like Kakashi.

After fight Gaara, he was badly injured to the point where he couldn’t continue being a shinobi. Soon after he was offered the choice to have an operation that would return him to his normal state. The catch was that it had a 50% chance of him dying. He decided to go through with the surgery after talking to might guy. Right after he had one of the most iconic fights in Naruto. He used the drunken fist technique by accidentally mixing his bottle of medicine with saki against Kimimaro.

Naruto Shippuden

In Naruto Shippuden, he definitely had a decent amount of screen time. But probably not in the way rock lee fans would have liked. He didn’t really have any serious fights. The only one being close was on episode 401 with his fight against Shira. Which was actually a filler.

They had many chances to implement rock lee, but choose not too. Which sucks. They even took the time in Naruto to show such an awesome character. This makes it weird that they would make him strong then make him a side character that falls off. As for abilities we also find out that lee can open his sixth inner gate.

In the following years, Lee was promoted to Jounin. We also find out that he can open all 8 inner gates, as well as open a few instantly.

His most memorable moment so far in Boruto, was being the proctor of the third and final round of the Chuunin exams. He disappeared randomly after Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki attacked. Momoshiki would absorb chakra. Making the hidden leafs strongest taijitsu master a great match up against him. However they made him useless.

Why Rock Lee’s Progression Doesn’t Make Sense

Might guy has a past very similar to rock lee. When might guy was young he had a lack of talent in Ninjutsu and Genjutsu just like lee. Guy’s rival was Kakashi. He too had the desire to prove that hard work could be just as good as Kakashi’s natural genius. Might guy had awesome parts in Naruto Shippuden. In the fourth shinobi war, he took on Madara opening all 8 gates for one epic fight. That made even Madara praise him.

It’s safe to say Rock Lee surpassed Guy Sensei in Boruto. We know this since Rock lee masted the 8 inner gates. He also was able to smash a meteor by himself. It wouldn’t make sense that lee wouldn’t surpass might since that’s the theme of Naruto.

Might guy played a huge role in Naruto Shippuden. Its weird that someone stronger is useless in fights where he could excel in, like against Momoshiki. Even if he couldn’t beat him its weird that they wouldn’t show him at all.

Summed up Boruto fucked big time with their character development. They made one of the most beloved characters in the series useless. We get that they wanted to make room for the new generation and tell their own story. But that doesn’t excuse bad writing and character development.
